I have tried for years to figure out the secret to delicious, restaurant quality refried beans, only to be disappointed every time. I will soon be adding versions of this recipe for beans cooked in a slow cooker as well as using pre-cooked beans. You can cook the beans without soaking them first, but soaking them for at least 12 hours makes them easier to digest and reduces the gassy effect that beans tend to have on people.
